One of the easiest ways to improve yourself is to learn a new skill. While there are lots of different skills out there that you can learn, such as picking up some beginner sewing tips to taking some Italian cooking classes to make use of that pasta maker your aunt Gina gave you, I think that learning how to play an instrument is one of the most useful skills that you can acquire. Specifically, I think that learning the guitar is one of the best options since it is relatively easy to learn with a good course and you can get a cheap guitar to fit almost any budget.
What You Need To Get Started
One of the best things about learning to play an instrument like the guitar is that it doesn’t require much to get you started. In fact, all you really need at a minimum are:
- a guitar
- a guitar tuner
But here’s what’s cool – if you have an iPhone or other smartphone, then you don’t even have to buy a tuner because their are apps that you can use instead! Pretty cool, huh? Also, some guitar come with a built-in tuner, but you usually have to spend around $500 for those models, at least, so you might not want to splurge that much when you’re just getting started.
If your budget allows for it, you may also want to get yourself a backup set of strings for when you break yours giving it a tune. And some guitar picks, though most music instrument stores like Guitar Center give those away for free at the cash register. And if you intend to stand while playing, then a strap for the guitar will help you out.
One thing that you might want to consider is that traditional acoustic guitars can be too large for some people to comfortably play. You see this most often with young adults and petite women who have smaller hands and shorter arms. Fortunately, you can buy 3/4 size guitars for small hands that sounds just as good as a full size one. In fact, anyone can play one of these smaller guitars, just like Ed Sheeran uses when he performs!
So, what if you can’t afford to buy a guitar to learn on? No worries! You can usually find good prices on used guitars at local shops and online. In fact, Guitar Center usually sells off used gear at all of their retail locations. So, that is a great place for you to start your search for a quality used guitar at a cheap price.
